Chosen Cop 3 question and 250 word introduction

To what extent does Aesthetic ‘Style’ reflect the context, audience and/or function of contemporary Graphic Design / Illustration / Animation?

This is my chosen question for my proposal that I will be writing in the future.

The reason why I have chosen this question because the word "style" represents a lot of things, its a subject I could talk widely about based on the world and society both in the past and the present. Style is every where both in the art of animation and the way we live our lives, it is a factor that plays a big part in identifying things for who and what they are, I think I will have a lot more to talk about when getting in to the subject of style.

I will use artist like e.g. Rob Dobi and Olly Moss for inspiration when approaching this practical side of this project.

The chosen question is about style, the following proposal will be taking a look at style based on gender, race or scenery with in animation. The word style has two main different meanings, one being based on the principle being the way something is designed and another meaning is orientated around the procedure which something is done. This proposal will cover both of these meanings and will look into styles based on gender, race, scenery or narrative, talking about the different approaches to making an animation based on representation of genders both male and female, scenery or race. The main focus will be the style in which the animators use to depict certain character based on their race, gender and the setting they are in, questions will be asked to find out about peoples opinions to do with style as a representation for characters. what will be looked at is how certain styles bring forth emotion and what people feel when looking at certain characters e.g. laughter, anger, sadness.

Change of appearance idea for character

I have been researching into change of appearance and how this caused. The reason for researching into this is because my character changes her appearance with in my animation because of her roles as an actor, this is to symbolise her protest against orientalism and how it has effected her Chinese race with in the film industry over a period of time. She is trying  the west that she can play and type character and does not always need to be placed in the background of a film.

Looking at changed appearances has helped move my project forward through the use of idea generation because it has allowed me to understand the changes people go through, why they happen and how changing some body's appearance effects their personality. This is all vital information to help me develop my character and her appearance as an actor and how her personality changes based on her change of costumes.

Reason for looking at these sources is because I want to understand what changes appearance looks like and try and find out how someone's appearance develops and changes from beginning to a end result, reason being is because I want to apply this understanding and method of changing to my very own female character to show her change in different acting costumes.

From researching into the change of appearance I have found that a lot of people prefer to change their appearance because each day represents difference and deserves a new appearance, but its also based on the person choice whether they want to change cloths or not.
